Wilderness Skills for Paddlers

Join Hawk as he shares the skills he learned from living close to nature. Hawk received survival training as a special operations commando in the U.S. Army, but the skills of attunement honed from years of living in the Northwoods with the native Ojibwa and like-minded souls are the ones that will help paddlers who want to put themselves back into the wilderness and reconnect to their ancestral selves. Wilderness skills such as making a fire without matches, constructing a shelter, or natural wayfinding are becoming a lost art in our technologically-advanced societies. This class is for anyone who risks finding themselves washed up onto a long desolate shoreline far from roads or help or maybe chilled to the bone on the wrong side of the river after an unexpected swim with no boat or paddle in sight and facing a long hike out in dropping temperatures and darkness approaching fast. If you simply want to keep from getting voted off the island through the use of your stellar fire-making skills or food-gathering abilities, this could be the class for you. This is an overnight camping class held in the wilderness of Humboldt County. Most equipment will be provided by Mother Nature, but please bring your own personal camping gear as a backup. Scrumptious meals cooked over an open fire will also be provided.

Price: $150
